With the LPGA idle last weekend, IJGA alumna and world No. 5 Shanshan Feng could have taken the time off to recharge and relax. Instead, the Quangzhou, China, native returned to her home country where she led wire-to-wire in the Buick Championship event at Shanghai Qizhong Garden Golf Course on the Ladies European Tour.
Her strongest holes were a set of par-5’s in No.4 and No.17 where she carded a birdie in each of the four rounds of the tournament. She ended the weekend with more than 20 birdies, less than ten bogeys or more, and an eagle over the course of 72 holes.
Feng shot a stellar 7-under in round one including going the entire round without a hole over par. She also added five birdies and an eagle on the par-5 hole No.13 to her card for the day. In round two, she was 5-under with a 69 and carded two sets of back-to-back birdies on the front nine, making the turn with a 3-under 33.
The second two rounds, while not as highlight reel heavy, still produced some great moments as Feng carded a 3-under 69 on the third day when she birdied every par-5 on the course. In her final round, she shot a 2-under 70 and finished out strong making birdie on three of her last four holes.
By the weekend’s end she led by a whopping six strokes taking the title with ease thanks to her tournament total score of 17-under 271.
