Getting to Know Hank Haney

Hank Haney, Director of Instruction, sat down with Glenn Gray, Hank Haney IJGA Marketing and Sponsorship Coordinator, to kick-off a series of articles highlighting the Hank Haney IJGA staff. Hank answered a few questions about his career, the latest at Hank Haney IJGA, and some interesting things you may not know.

What is your favorite moment as a golf instructor?

I would say either when Mark O'Meara won the 1998 Masters or when Tiger Woods won the 2006 Masters.

Who are your mentors and why?

John Jacobs and Jim Hardy are my two biggest mentors. John taught me how to teach the game to others. He gave me the knowledge I needed to be successful in this profession. Also, I always admired how he made the game fun for everyone. Jim instilled his passion for the game in me that I carry with me to this day. Both of these men have been very influential in my career.

What makes Hank Haney IJGA more special than other junior golf academies?

The Hank Haney IJGA golf instruction staff is the best I have ever been associated with in my thirty-two years of teaching the game of golf. They are incredibly knowledgeable but also care about each student in helping them to achieve their goals. Our entire staff, including the Residential Instructors and teachers at Heritage Academy, plays a crucial part in the success of the Academy.

What are you currently focusing on with Hank Haney IJGA students?

For each student, our focus is to teach them the skills they need to be successful in the game but, more importantly, we use golf as a vehicle to help them to learn how to be successful in life.

What is the most important trait in becoming a successful junior golfer?

You must have a great work ethic and never stop trying to improve your game.
