UNIVERSITY PLACE, WA – After day one at the 2010 U.S. Amateur, former Hank Haney IJGA student Richy Werenski is tied for third place, after firing a first round 69 (3 under par). The native of South Hadley, MA played his first round on the Home Course (par 72, 7,420 yards) and will play his second round today on Chambers Bay (par 71, 7,742 yards). Werenski, a second semester freshman at Georgia Tech, is 7 shots behind Jeff Wilson (Fairfield, CA), who shot a first round 62 (10 under par) on the Home Course.
Werenski is coming off a busy summer, making it to the round of 16 in the 2010 Massachusetts Amateur and placing 4th at the2010 Players Amateur at Belfair Golf Club (Bluffton, SC).
Other former Hank Haney IJGA students competing in the 2010 U.S. Amateur include Morgan Hoffman and Stewart Hagestad. Hoffmann, a junior at Oklahoma State, and Hagestad, a sophomore and the University of Southern California, both fired rounds of 73 (2 over par) on the Chambers Bay course.
