PINEHURST, NC - Serving as a resort destination for those seeking golf, Pinehurst Resort provides nine beautiful golf courses surrounding the resort. Pinehurst is most memorable for the 1999 U.S. Open on Pinehurst No. 2, where Payne Stewart sunk his final putt on the 18th hole to clinch one of golf's major championships. The resort course selected for play this weekend was Pinehurst No. 6. The dramatic changes in elevation and the fairways lined with tall pines proved to be true adversaries for the competitors. Extremely soggy conditions for the start of Saturday's round turned some of the par 4's into what seemed like cumbersome par 5's.

In the Boys 16-19 Division, Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy (Hank Haney IJGA) student Frederic Nordhoff of Issaquah, WA finished in third place after turning in respectable back-to-back rounds of 76 totaling 152.

In the Boys 13-15 Division, Hank Haney IJGA student Michael Chanaud of Gambrills, MD took home first-place honors with rounds of 77 and 81, totaling 158.

Chanaud felt good after his first win on the IJGT. His keys to victory this week were his driving accuracy and iron play, which he said were a direct result of hard practice. When it came down to the last few holes, Chanaud knew he could bring home the title. To keep focused he 'took one shot at a time', which ultimately helped him go home with the first-place trophy.
