BEAUFORT,
SC - The
International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) returned to The Legends Golf Course on
Parris Island for another thrilling event.
Best known for entertaining some of the nation's finest Marines, Parris
Island opened its gates to host junior golf at the highest competitive
level. Nestled safely on the tip of the
island, The Legends Course proved to be a formidable challenge with its
obstacle ridden terrain and quick undulating greens.
Holding on to a 4-stroke opening round lead, Hank Haney
International Junior Golf Academy (Hank Haney IJGA) student Robin Brinckmann
(Hamburg, Germany) played with ice water in his veins on Sunday to take home
the title in the Boys 16-19 Division.
Brinckmann fired rounds of 69 and 72 to fend off the rest of the
competition and finish the tournament with a score of 141. Coming in a close second was Hank Haney IJGA
student Charlie Durman (Margaretting, United Kingdom) who followed up an
opening round 74 with a spectacular 69 on Sunday. Durman finished just 2-strokes behind the leader
with a score of 143. In third place, Hank Haney IJGA student Kevin Shea
(Qunicy, MA) posted a total of 148 to secure the final medalist honors.
'I am very happy to get the win this week in my last
tournament. My short game was great
during the first round and I made all of the short putts I needed to make,'
said Brinckmann.
In the Boys 13-15 Division, Hank Haney IJGA student J.J.
Qualkenbush (La Quinta, CA) posted rounds of 80 and 78 to claim second place in
the division. Finishing in third place
was Hank Haney IJGA student Sam Scott (Hinsdale, IL). Scott wrapped up his tournament with a 159
score.
In the Boys U-12 Division, claiming second place honors was
Hank Haney IJGA student Derrick Villarreal (Hartland, WI). Villarreal carded
rounds of 73 and 78 to finish with a score of 151.
In the Girls U-19 Division, Hank Haney IJGA student Olivia
Landino (Hermitage, PA) improved on her opening round 86 with an 80 on Sunday
to finish in 2nd place. Also, Hank Haney IJGA student Tracey
Marshall (Newfields, NH) finished in 3rd place after posting a
tournament score of 169.
