Two International Junior Golf Academy students earned titles over the weekend. Melany Chong of Mississauga, Canada, won the Girls Division and Chase Phillips of Hilton Head, S.C., won the Boys 14 & Under Division of the IJGT Junior at Oldfield Club. The two-day, 36-hole event was played in Okatie, S.C., on January 30-31, 2016.
Chong fired a 1-over 73 in round one to lead the Girls Division by two strokes heading into the final round. Fellow IJGA student Angela Aung of Yangon, Myanmar, carded a division-best even-par 72 in round two to match Chong’s 147 two-day total and force a playoff. Chong prevailed, making par on the par-3 13th hole at Oldfield to earn the win.
Aung didn’t leave empty-handed as she earned the Clazic Low Final Round Award in addition to her second-place trophy.
Phillips collected his fourth IJGT title of the season, knocking six strokes off his round one 80 to card a 2-over 74 in round two for a 154 tournament total. Noah Levine of Mendon, N.Y. finished third in the Boys 14 & Under Division.
Congratulations to all on a great weekend!
