Rising International Junior Golf Academy (IJGA) senior Colton Tanner fired a 5-under 67 to earn medalist honors in the Bonneville AM Qualifier. Of Bonneville’s four par-5s, Tanner carded an eagle on three of them and birded the last. The victory means Tanner will be competing in the Utah State Amateur Championship at Alpine Country Club on July 11-16, 2016.
Meanwhile, in Kansas, another rising IJGA senior–Sera Tadokoro–tied for 10th in the AJGA Kansas Junior at Buffalo Dunes. The three-day, 54-hole event was held in Garden City, Kansas, on June 14-17, 2016. Tadokoro fired an even-par 72 in round two.
Regina Plasencia, who graduated from the University of Arkansas this past May, has made huge strides toward achieving her goal of playing on the LPGA Tour. Plasencia fired a 2-under 69 in the Monday qualifier to secure her spot in the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship. Pablo Larrazabal will defend his BMW International Open title this week. The European Tour event will be hosted at Golf Club Gut Laerchenhof in Pulheim, Germany, on June 23-26, 2016. Last year, Larrazabal fired a bogey-free 66 in the final round to defeat Henrik Stenson by a single stroke.
Recent University of Louisville graduate Laura Restrepo was named to the 2015-16 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Golf Academic Team. Last month she was named to the All-ACC women’s golf team. She is currently competing in the Women’s British Amateur Championship at Dundonald Links in Troon, Scotland.
Rising University of Central Florida senior Ayaka Nakayama advanced to the semifinal matches of the Florida State Golf Association Women’s Amateur Championship. The tournament was hosted at Bent Pine Golf Club in Vero Beach, Fla. To read more about Nakayama’s performance, click here.
