When was the IJGA founded?

Ray Travaglione founded the IJGA in 1995. We are the only academy in the world that combines training, academics and competition. The mission of the Academy is to prepare students for college golf and beyond.

When should a student apply for the full year program?

Students who are interested in the academic year golf program should apply in the spring if they are considering entering in Fall (August- December). If students are interested in attending for the spring (January -May) they should apply in the fall.

How do I schedule a visit?

You are encouraged to call the admissions office at 1-800-791-8229 to schedule a visit. A visit usually takes half a day and your game will be professionally evaluated by one of our Hank Haney IJGA instructors.

What are admissions requirements?

Once the Academy has received your application it will be reviewed within one week. We are looking for students with a minimum of a 2.0 GPA, are goal oriented, hard working, and have a passion for golf. Students are encouraged to visit; your game will be professionally evaluated by one of our Hank Haney IJGA instructors and you will interview with admissions.

Are International Students Issued an I-20?

International Students who will be attending high school at the Academy will be issued an I-20 through Heritage Academy once the deposit and Heritage Academy tuition are paid. International students who attend the academy as a Post Graduate usually attend on a tourist visa that can be obtained through your country's embassy. International PG students who are issued an I-20 must be a full time student with The University of South Carolina Beaufort.

What payment options do I have?

Students and parents will be mailed a contract after students are admitted. A $5,000 deposit is due immediately and the remaining balance is due prior to the first day of golf and class. For full year students the tuition may be split into two payments (with a minimal finance charge). First payment is due August 1st and the balance is due December 1st.

Are scholarships offered?

Students who are interested in scholarships should speak directly with the admissions office. They are determined on a case-by-case basis.

Who will be my golf instructor?

When students arrive for the fall semester, they are evaluated for one week by all of our Hank Haney IJGA instructors. Students are grouped together by handicap, age and personality. Students who arrive in the spring will be placed in a group based on the same factors.

What should I bring to the Academy?

Necessary Items: Golf equipment, clothing, toiletries, linens for twin bed, blanket/comforter, alarm clock, umbrella, bug spray, suntan lotion, towels, long distance phone card, money/credit card, hangers, swimsuit, school supplies, navy blue blazer and travel supplies.

Optional Items: Lap top, i-pod, backpack, camera, cards, sports equipment, reading lamp and cell phone.

Prohibited Items: Candles, flammables, hanging lights, TV's and stereos, pets, fireworks, firearms, pornographic poster/magazines and paintball guns.

What are the housing facilities like?

High school and middle school students live on Hilton Head Island at Brittany Place, a condominium community located in Yacht Cove. There are a total of 11 students per household with one House Parent. Students have two living spaces as well as two kitchens.

Post Graduate students live at Palmetto Village, adjacent to the south campus of the University of South Carolina @ Beaufort. Palmetto Village is an apartment style community that allows for privacy.

Each unit has four bedrooms and two baths, kitchen, living/dining area and comes fully furnished. There is a community game room, basketball court and outdoor grill. The location also allows for easy entry to the USCB campus, which will provide students full access to all the amenities of the campus.

Can I have a car at the Academy?

High School seniors may have a car at the Academy. No other student is allowed to ride in the car without the permissions of his or her parents. Post Graduate students may have a car on Hilton Head Island. No other student is allowed to ride in the car without the permissions of his or her parents.

Is there a laundry service?

There is a laundry service available however most students do their own laundry. There is a washing machine and dryer in each house at all housing facilities.

Where do students eat?

Students eat their meals at Brittany Place and off-campus locations on Hilton Head. Post Graduate students are responsible for their own meals.

Who will be my House Parent?

House Parents are full time employees of the Academy. Many House Parents have a background in education, counseling, or golf. Applicants go through a strict screening process and background check. Students are placed in housing by age. House Parents monitor study sessions and communicate with the parents on a regular basis.

Where do students fly?

Students can fly into either Hilton Head Island (HHH) or Savannah, GA (SAV) airport. The Academy will pick up any students flying into Hilton Head Airport.

How do I access the Internet?

Each housing facility at the Academy is equipped with wireless Internet. If your computer does not have wireless capability already we will provide a wireless card for you.

Do I play in tournaments during the year? How many on average?

Students play on the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) throughout the year. The student will create a tournament schedule with the assistance of their golf instructors. All IJGT tournament travel arrangements are made through the Academy. House Parents and instructors travel with the group.
