Mental & Physical Training

Mental Training and Physical Training are an integral part of the golf program at Hank Haney IJGA. You will work with our Director of Mental Training on a weekly basis in group seminars and workshops to gain insight into the necessary mental skills to enhance performance both on and off the golf course. Our Fitness Trainers develop a comprehensive workout plan for each student. Hank Haney IJGA staff is also available for individual, personalized sessions to work with each student on his/her specific needs.

Mental Training

“Better Thinking. Better Golf.” Program:

  •           Provides students with training in mental performance enhancement techniques
  •          Assists our student-athletes to reach their potential both on and off the golf course
  •          Prepares golfers for competitive pressure and more consistent results in tournament play

Matt Cuccaro, Director of Mental Training

Matt Cuccaro, Director of “Better Thinking. Better Golf.” Mental Training at Hank Haney IJGA, received his Master of Education (Ed.M.) in Counseling/Sport Psychology from Boston University. He is an active member of the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology (AAASP) and has worked extensively with elite athletes and teams at the high school, collegiate, and professional level.

He brings more than five years of junior golf experience from the American Junior Golf Association where he served as the East Canon Cup Captain and United States Representative for the Junior British Open Championship. As a Division I student-athlete, Matt captained the Loyola College (Md.) golf team followed by a brief professional career before focusing his attention specifically on mental training in golf.

Fiona Vick, Assistant Director of Mental Training

Fiona Vick is Assistant Director of “Better Thinking. Better Golf.” Mental Training. She received her Masters of Science (MS) in Exercise and Sport Science with a concentration in Sport and Exercise Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Fiona is an active member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology and the American Psychological Association.

She has worked with college athletes and has personal training experience, which contributes to her wide area of expertise ranging from performance enhancement to life-skills training. With her diverse educational background, experience working with Division 1 golfers and her own personal athletic background, Fiona has the experience to assist IJGA golfers in improving their mental skills both on and off the course.

Physical Training

Hank Haney IJGA promotes health and fitness. Our “Better Fitness. Better Golf.” program is a significant aspect of every student's daily routine.

Today’s game requires top physical conditioning to effectively compete. Having sound golf technique is not enough. Our program was designed to address the golf-specific needs of junior players looking to maximize their golf skills.

Keith Kleven,  Director of Fitness

Keith Kleven, who works with the world’s number one golfer, directs our Fitness Program.  He has designed a program specific to the needs of our student athletes here at Hank Haney IJGA.

Keith has trained our staff of trainers to deliver a fitness program second to none and one which incorporates many of the fitness components used by the world’s best golfer.

He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Brigham Young University, attended Children’s Hospital, School of Physical Therapy in Los Angeles and completed a one year residency program at the University of Southern California.

He entered into private practice with an associate at Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada.  In 1983 they moved into a private clinic, and in 1993 he formed the Kleven Institute of Physical Therapy in Las Vegas. 

Keith is a founding member of the American Hand Society and the Sports/Physical Therapy section of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). 

In addition to being a physical therapist, Keith is also a certified athletic trainer.  His education and background has led him to work with world-class athletes such as Tiger Woods, Greg Maddux, Mark O’Meara, Jonathan Byrd and numerous other professional and amateur athletes.
