Lee Hammerschmidt of Armonk, N.Y., won the Metropolitan PGA Junior Series at Eisenhower Golf Course. The 36-hole event was contested on the White Course at the state park named for the 34th President of the United States and avid golfer, Dwight Eisenhower. Hammerschmidt won the tournament in a playoff by making a birdie on the third playoff hole.
Hammerschimdt started off the tournament with a 1-over-par 73, which put him three strokes off pace. The final round was much better for Hammerschmidt as he stormed back for victory shooting a 4-under-par 68 to force a playoff. Hammerschmidt got off to a great start in the final round making three birdies in his first four holes, and also made an eagle on the front nine leading to a 4-under-par 32 on the front. He would add one birdie, one bogey, and seven pars to finish off his round.
Hammerschmidt attended IJGA during the 2013-2014 academic year to pursue his dream of playing college golf. The time and effort Hammerschmidt and his support team have put in are paying off already. Best of luck in your next competition!
