This past weekend, March 5-8, 2015, an IJGA Alumnus and a professional student of IJGA coach Tim Vickers competed in the LPGA HSBC Women’s Champions. Azahara Munoz, Malaga, Spain, a professional student of Tim Vickers, and IJGA alumnus Shanshan Feng, Guangzhou, China, tied for fourth place in the event with total scores of 10-under, 278.
Munoz’s best score came in round two where she shot a 5-under 67. In that round she shot par-or-better on all but one hole and carded six birdies, four of which came on the front nine. Her best holes, however, were the par-3 hole No. 17 and the par-5 hole No. 12. She birdied each one in two consecutive rounds. First, she birdied hole No. 17 in rounds 1 and 2 before making birdie on hole No. 12 in rounds 3 and 4.
Feng had her best score in the third round when she shot 4-under 68. In this round, she carded birdies on all of the course’s par-5 holes as well as the par-4 No. 13. In the fourth and final round she continued her mastery of the course’s par-5 holes making birdie on every single one again as well as adding birdie performances on the par-4 No. 3 and par-3 No. 14 for a round four total of three-under 69.
Elsewhere, IJGA alum Morgan Hoffman competed in the Cadillac Championship at Doral. He continued improving tying for 17th in the field, his best finish of the season. His best round was a 1-under 71 second highlighted by four birdies including two to start his round.
