Many International Junior Golf Academy members had the opportunity to compete at TPC Sawgrass for the Thanksgiving Day Classic, hosted by the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) during Thanksgiving weekend. At least one IJGA member placed in each of the three tournament divisions.
An impressive front nine in round one and back nine in round three helped lead Xue Wen Luo of Haikou, China, to victory in the Boys 15-19 Division. Luo started off the tournament with seven pars and an eagle on the eighth hole allowing him to finish the front nine 1-under-par.
After an early morning frost delay, Luo lost some momentum on the second day of the tournament finishing the second round 3-over par. But, he didn’t lose focus and was able to bounce back in the final round. Luo scored par or better on 42 holes throughout the tournament. He earned the Clazic Belts Low Final Round Award with an even-par 72 in round three, which helped catapult him to victory with a 221 tournament total.
Shiso Go of Kanagawa, Japan, earned this week’s IJGT Player of the Weekhonors with a come-from-behind third place finish. After finding himself in 27thplace at the conclusion of round one, Go was much more consistent in round two. Three birdies on holes No. 14, 17 and 18 helped him finish the second day 2-under par. Go birdied six times in round three bringing his tournament total to 227, which tied him for third.
Dong Jin Park of Seoul, South Korea, finished second in the Boys 14 & Under Division with a tournament total of 246. The 14-year-old was very consistent in just his fourth IJGT tournament scoring par or better on at least nine holes in each round.
