What is the weather like in Hilton Head? The weather varies throughout the year. We believe this is more beneficial to the students and helps to prepare them for all types of weather. During the winter months, the average high is 60 degrees. Students are able to play golf year round.
What does a typical day entail for Middle and High School full-time students? The students begin their day with breakfast at their house and are then transported to school by their residential instructor. The students attend their three academic classes at Heritage Academy from 7:30AM to 12:30PM when they are picked up by their golf instructor and taken to either fitness or lunch depending on the day. Hank Haney IJGA Training Center is located next door to Heritage Academy and the trainers will work with the students on their fitness programs. After lunch and/or fitness, the students are transported to the golf course where they work with their instructor until approximately 5:30PM.
Once a week, each group of students will receive mental training with one of the IJGA mental trainers.
After practice, the students are transported home by their instructors and the residential instructor will take the students to dinner. After dinner, they will have free time until the 1.5 hours of study session. The residential instructors supervise the study session time and then it is lights out.
On the weekends, the residential instructors will organize different activities for the students to participate in including: shopping trips, movies, golf, trips to Savannah and church. Other students participate in IJGT tournaments on the weekends.
Throughout the year, residential instructors will arrange special weekend trips such as amusement parks, golf shows, ski trips, world golf village, PGA Tournaments, water parks, and different area city trips.
What does a typical day entail for Post-Graduate students? The PG students begin their day with breakfast at their housing on the USCB campus. The houses are stocked with different breakfast foods and the students are responsible for making their own meal. After breakfast, they head to their golf course for practice via Academy vehicles or their own transportation. Once at the course, they will work with their instructor in the morning on all aspects of the game. They will break for lunch and then play 9 holes each afternoon. The coaches will be out on the course with the students observing and working on golf course management. Students who take university classes as USCB attend class in their afternoon or evening. After golf or class, the students return to housing and get ready for dinner and their chosen nightly activity.
How much time does Hank spend with the full-time students? Hank typically spends up to one week a month with the students. He also works hand in hand with the coaches on the students’ swings via internet and phone communications. In addition, Academy students are able to login to their accounts on the IJGA website and ask Hank questions as often as they like.
