Current IJGA student, Rei Nakatani of Tokyo, Japan, won the PGA Junior Series at Columbia Country Club on June 3-5,2014 in Blythewood, S.C. Nakatani finished with a 1-over-par 217 tournament total and won the Girls Division by five strokes. Nakatani began the tournament with a solid round of 1-over-par 73 putting her only three strokes back of the lead. The second round of the tournament included three birdies on her way to an even-par 72. Nakatani made up those three strokes to tie for the lead going into the final round. The last day started off fast with two birdies in her first three holes, but after nine holes, Nakatani trailed by one shot. The closing nine was dominated by Nakatani as she shot 2-under-par 34 to finish with the victory.
With the win, Nakatani secured her spot in the 39th Junior PGA Championship presented by Under Armour and Genesis Networks, July 29 – Aug. 1, 2014, at Miramont Country Club in Bryan, Texas. This is one of the most prestigious junior tournaments in the United States featuring some of the best players from all across the United States.
