Congratulations to International Junior Golf Academy student, Ana Paula Valdes of Morelia, Mexico, who won the Girl’s Division at the Sea Pines Junior Heritage. This Event took place on February 1-2, 2014 at Sea Pines Resort. Rounds were played on the Heron Point  and Harbour Town courses.

After finishing tied for fifth place at the International Junior Golf Tour’s IJGA Invitational at Harbour Town on December 14-15, 2013, Valdez came back determined to win. She posted a 1-over-par score of 73 after the first round. She struggled a bit during the final round, but managed to score six pars on the final six holes to secure her victory. Valdez finished the weekend with scores of 73-75–148.

Valdes has two first place finishes at IJGT events for the 2013-2014 season

When asked about how it feels to win at Sea Pines Junior Heritage, Valdes said, “It feels amazing! Realizing that hard work does pay off… all that extra time being away from home paid off.”

Valdes has been playing some great golf recently. She took third place at the LXXXIX Torneo Nacional de Aficionadas at the Club de Golf Bellevista. The Mexican Women’s Amatuer consisted of 72-holes. Valdes shot a 2-under-par on the final two days of the tournament to lock up third place. Her numbers for the Mexican Women’s Amateur were 73-78-70-70–291.

Valdes scored a combined 4-under-par 140 in her third and fourth rounds of the Mexican Women’s Amateur, a score matched by only one other in the field: the champion

Valdes hopes to continue her momentum when she plays in the Major Championship at Kiawah Island on February 15-16th, 2014.

The IJGA had a total of 13 students competing in this event. In the boys division, three IJGA students finished in the top 10. Shota Ozaki of Tokyo, Japan finished in fifth place with a score of 74-70–144, Aaron Terrazas of Veracruz, Mexico finished tied for seventh posting a 71-76-147, and Matt Cheng of Taipei, Taiwan ended up tied for ninth place shooting a 77-71–148.  In the Girls Division, Clementina Rodriguez of Caracas, Venezuela finished tied for second place posting a score of 75-74–149 and Ana Ruiz of Chihuahua, Mexico ended tied for fourth place with a score of 74-78–152.
