The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) is hosting the IJGA Junior Open at Chechessee Creek Club in Okatie, S.C. On June 15, 68 boys and 23 girls competed in a qualifier to determine the remaining eight spots in the IJGA Junior Open tournament field.
IJGA students Taisuke Ono of Tokyo, Japan, and Yunjie Zhang of Haikou City, China, earned medalist honors and entry into the AJGA tournament.
Ono fired a 2-under-par 68 to earn the top spot in the Boys Division along with Spenser Slayden of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Ono recorded nine-hole scores of 34 on both the front and back nines en route to his victory. This was his personal-best score beating a 69 which he recorded two weeks earlier in an AJGA tournament.
Zhang paced the Girls Division with a score of even-par 70 including nine-hole scores of 34 and 36. This was her first attempt at qualifying for an AJGA event.
Other IJGA students qualifying on June 15 were Piyush Sangwan of Gurgaon, India (70), Jairaj Sandhu of Patiala, India (72), and Xue Wen Luo of Haikou City, China (72).
These five students will join 14 other IJGA students who are competing in the IJGA Junior Open.
