MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL GOLF PROGRAMS
ESL
Diversity within the school environment offers students the opportunity to learn values and attitudes that only a true international community can provide. In reaching out to international students, Heritage Academy offers a full program of English as a Second Language (ESL). The program is staffed by three certified ESL instructors who work together to provide an enriched, learning experience for the students in the program.
Initial assessments are given to students participating in the ESL program. This assessment allows the ESL coordinator to determine the proper placement for each student. Helping students become more proficient in the English language and feel successful enough to move into a mainstream classroom is our goal.

Golf Programs
The International Junior Golf Academy offers the most comprehensive golf instruction in the world for junior golfers in grades 6-12. In addition, a post-graduate program is provided for those student-athletes who are seeking to increase their SAT scores or lower their handicap.
The high-level golf instruction takes place in a magnificent and secure setting on Hilton Head and Daufuskie Islands in South Carolina.
Students from countries across the globe come from late August until the end of the following May to participate in the training program developed by Gary Gilchrist, our Director of Golf.
Gary, who for ten years directed the Ledbetter Academy, has a staff of 12 teaching professionals whom he has trained and certified in his teaching method. Utilizing his method, his students have won virtually every major junior championship in the U.S., including the U.S. Women’s Amateur, U.S. Women’s Public Links Championship, NCAA Championship, British Junior Open and runner-up in the U.S. Amateur. They have played on Walker Cup and Solheim Cup teams.
Some of their names are Michelle Wie, Paula Creamer, David Gossett, Aree and Naree Song, Casey Wittenberg, Ty Tryon and Sean O’Hair.
When students arrive at the Academy, they are assigned to a group based upon age and ability. The weekly schedule combines a variety of elements, including short-game and full-swing practice, course management, video analysis, rounds of golf, and much more.
Each student has a personalized practice program concentrating on his or her strengths and weaknesses. At the conclusion of each month, stats are reviewed and the practice plan revised accordingly.
Becoming a great golfer requires talent, commitment and hard work. If you bring those to the IJGA, we will do the rest.
