Current IJGA student, Kelly Whaley of Farmington, Conn., competed in the American Junior Golf Association’s (AJGA) Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic on April 18-20, 2014, at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz. The annual Easter event is one of the premier open tournaments on the AJGA schedule and has touted previous champions like Hunter Mahan and Paula Creamer. Whaley finished in fourth place in the 54-hole tournament recording a tournament total of 1-under-par 212.
Whaley started off the tournament posting a round of 2-over-par 73, but had a strong finish giving her momentum for the next day. The second round was one to remember for Whaley as she recorded a 3-under-par 68 including six birdies. Her round was the best recorded in the entire Girls Division during the second round. During the final round, Whaley got off to a great start making four birdies on her front nine, and finished with a score of even-par 71 to capture a fourth-place finish.
