2 Wins, 16 Top-10s at IJGT at Red Tail

This weekend, 42 students from Bishops Gate Golf Academy made the short trip to Red Tail Golf Club for the IJGT Florida Open at Red Tail. Capitalizing on the best weather in weeks, every student made a competitive run at the top spot. This culminated in a 3-way playoff for the top spot and a BGGA-owned top-10.

The most consistent play of the weekend came from Jose Haces and Brett Inserra. They both shot a 70-71 to lock in playoff bids at 3-under-par. Charging ahead in the final round, Luke Northwood fired a 68, including an eagle on the par-5 eighth, to claim his spot in the playoff. Jose Haces sealed the deal on the first playoff hole with a birdie, earning his first win of the 2016 season.

Rounding out the top-5 finishers, Taisuke Ono shot a second-round 69 to claim a solo-4th finish. Taisuke’s bogey-free front nine led the way to his finish, just one shot off the leading group. Tennoshin Ogawa opened the tournament by taking the round-one lead, and after fighting through a troublesome back nine in the second round, Tennoshin settled for a solo-5th finish.

In the Girls Division, BGGA students went 1 and 2. Yeji Ahn and Ximena Gonzalez seem to have swapped first- and second-round scores, locking in their top finishes. Ximena fired a first-round 78, but reeled it in with a second-round 72 to claim a first-place finish. Yeji opened the tournament with the low round of the day, but the back-nine bit again. Yeji carded a second-round 79, but riding on the back of her opening round, it was good enough for a solo second finish.

In the Boys 14&Under Division, Luca Jumabhoy claimed a T2 finish. In Luca’s first event as a BGGA student, Luca shot a one-round 139. That is Luca no more. Luca was firing on all cylinders this weekend, opening the event with a first-round 78. After round two, his tournament total comes to 168, locking in his podium finish.
