BGGA Students Take the Weekend by Storm

Over the weekend, 21 BGGA students competed in the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT)’s 54-Hole Challenge in Orange Park, Fla., and one student competed in the AJGA’s ANNIKA Invitational in Reunion, Fla.

BGGA students swept the Boys 15-18 Division of the HJGT’s 54-Hole Challenge at Fleming Island on February 14-16, 2015. Tom Broxup shot a 2-under-par 69 in round one on his way to winning the division. He made par or better on every hole but one during his first round. Broxup was the only junior in his division to finish the tournament under par, recording a tournament total 1-under-par 212. He won the division by a decisive 10 strokes. 

Tsukasa Kimishima carded a 2-under-par 69 in the final round of the 54-Hole Challenge to finish with a tournament total of 221, good for second place. Kimishima made par or better on every hole but one in round three. During the tournament, he was particularly successful on the par-5 18th hole, which he birdied in all three rounds.

Julian Périco and Tiger Lee tied for third in the 54-Hole Challenge with tournament totals of 227. Périco’s best round was his 1-over-par 72 in round three. He started the final round strong, making par or better on the first 12 holes, including birdies on the par-5 holes No. 3 and 5. Lee’s best round was his 2-over-par 73 first, in which he carded three birdies on the par-4 first hole, the par-5 third and the par-4 ninth.

Zaffar Sikkander used four birdies to card a 1-under-par 70 in round three. He finished with a tournament total of 231, good for eighth place.

Marc Sabria of Howey in the Hills, Fla., tied for fifth in the Boys 13-14 Division of the 54-Hole Challenge at Eagle Harbor Golf Club. Sabria carded three birdies in round two en route to a 2-over-par 74. He finished with a tournament total of 235.

In the Girls Division, Mami Yamamoto finished with a tournament total of 235, good for fourth place. Yamamoto collected five birdies during the tournament and had at least one birdie in each round.

Maria Hoyos tied for 18th in the ANNIKA Invitational, held at Reunion Resort’s Watson Course. The 54-hole event was held on February 13-16, 2015. Hoyos carded three birdies on the way to a 1-under-par 71 in round two and finished with a tournament total of 221. She birdied both the par-5 14th and the par-5 17th twice.
