FAQ’s for incoming students for the 2014/2015 school year

What should I bring to the Academy?
Necessary Items
: Golf equipment, backpack, clothing, toiletries, linens for twin bed, blanket/comforter, alarm clock, umbrella, bug spray, suntan lotion, towels, money/credit card, hangers, swimsuit, school supplies, dress clothes for special occasions and travel supplies.

Optional Items: I-pod, camera, cards, sports equipment, reading lamp and cell phone.

Prohibited Items: Drugs, including tobacco products, e-cigs and alcohol; candles, flammables, hanging lights, TV’s and stereos, pets, fireworks, firearms, pornographic poster/magazines and paintball guns.

Where are the housing facilities located?
All Residential Students live in The Village. The Village is located at 4921 Bluffton Parkway, Bluffton, SC 29910.

Students live with three to five other students in apartment-style housing. Housing units have either two or three bedrooms and only two students max will share a bathroom. In the Village, students will have access to common dining units, group study lounges and multi-purpose rooms – featuring games and recreational activities.

Can I have a car at the academy?
High School juniors, seniors and Post Graduate students in good standing may have a car at the academy.  No other student is allowed to ride in the car without the permissions of his or her parents.

Is there a laundry service?
Students do their own laundry. If needed, Residential Instructors will help teach students this life skill. All housing units have a washer and dryer and frequent trips to Target are available for supplies.

Where do students eat?
During the week, students eat breakfast and dinner in housing and lunch at Pinecrest Golf Course. Over the weekend, meals are provided at local restaurants or via catering.

Who will be my Residential Instructor?
Residential Instructors are full time employees of the academy.  Many of them have a background in education, counseling, or golf.  Applicants go through a strict screening process and background check.  Students are placed in housing by age.  Residential Instructors monitor study sessions and communicate with the parents on a regular basis.

Closest and most convenient airports?
Students can fly into Savannah, GA (SAV), or Hilton Head (HHH) airport. Transportation to and from the airports can be arranged through the Admissions staff at IJGA.

Is there wireless Internet?
Yes, the entire campus and Heritage Academy are wireless.

What if I need to go shopping?
Daily schedules are released weekly with trips to Target, Edwin Watts, Best Buy, and local outlets planned throughout the week and weekend. Students may communicate with their Residential Instructor if a special trip is needed outside of the normal schedule.
