Over the weekend of November 14-15, 2015, 39 students represented Bishops Gate Golf Academy in the International Junior Golf Tour’s Laurel Springs Major Championship at Mission Inn. Built in 1917, Mission Inn’s notoriously challenging El Campeon is one of the oldest courses in the Southeastern United States. The Boys 15-19 Division played the course at 6617 yards. Couple that with undulating greens and a stiff wind during round two, and you get one of the toughest courses you will face on the junior golf circuit.
In the Boys 15-19 Division, Tennoshin Ogawa took four strokes off of his round one 76 to shoot an even-par 72 on Sunday. Holding steady at 4-over-par, Tennoshin claimed a solo-second finish just one shot behind the leader. HaoHua Zhang, Takahiro Nojima, and Taisuke Ono each shot a tournament total 8-over-par 152 to share a tie for third place, and just one shot behind them were Julio Bello and Zaffar Sikkander. Julio and Zaffar swapped their round-one scores for the other’s in round two, locking in their T6 finish. Rounding out the BGGA representatives in the top-10 were David Fu (T8) and Thomas Pfoestl (10). Shoichiro Sakamoto claimed the Boys 14&Under Division title with a 25-over-par finish, claiming a 12-shot victory.
In the Girls Division, Ximena Gonzalez claimed a solo-second finish at 8-over-par. Just one shot behind Gonzalez was Tracy Lee, and rounding out our top-5 representatives was Yukie Sasaki, who took four shots off of her round one score to secure a tournament total 14-over-par 160, good for a solo-fifth finish.
