Where are They Now? With Brett Inserra

Brett Inserra graduated from Bishops Gate Golf Academy in May 2017 and is a freshman at Loyola University Maryland. Inserra recently shot a school-record 9-under-par 63 at the 2018 Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club. He was the top finisher for his team in that event.

Q: How did you get started in golf?

I started playing golf because my brother played. For my 7th birthday he gave me his old set of clubs and ever since then all I wanted to do was beat him.

Q: You love golf, so what drives your passion for it?

My passion for golf is driven by my determination to make my family proud and the pleasure I receive from hitting a shot exactly how I envisioned it in my mind.

Q: What are your goals in golf?

My goals in golf include breaking into the top 100 on the Golfweek rankings, winning a college event, and eventually earning a PGA Tour card.

Q: How is college going so far?

College golf is a lot of fun but very challenging. Every school is different, but at Loyola we need to prove why we deserve to play in each tournament. We have done rigorous qualifying rounds which has made me a better player and taught me how to shoot a good score when I’m not playing well.

Q:  How did BGGA prepare you for college?

Besides preparing me to be independent, BGGA has given me the knowledge to maximize my practice sessions. I now know how to practice with a purpose and I improve at a better rate than I would have if I didn’t attend BGGA.

Q: What do you love about being a college athlete?

I love being a college athlete because you are admired by other students and you get a lot of cool free gear.

Q. What is it like to play for a team?

Playing for a team is awesome. It’s nice to celebrate the highs with other people. The upperclassmen are filled with knowledge and I learn something new every time I tee it up with them.

Q: What has been one of the biggest challenges about the new experience as a college student?

Definitely the biggest challenge of college golf has been managing my time and getting enough sleep. We get a lot of homework and it can be hard to get all your practice in and complete all your homework.
