BGGA Weekend Wrap-Up | May 26, 2015

Over the weekend, 20 Bishops Gate Golf Academy students played in the IJGT’s Bridgestone Tournament of Champions. The three-day tournament is played on both of the Jack Nicklaus-designed courses at the Grand Cypress Golf Club in Central Florida. As the last tournament weekend before the end of the 2014-15 school year, all of the students came ready to play and eager to show their improvement over the last year.

BGGA students swept all three divisions of the tournament, claiming ten top-10 finishes, five top-10 finishes, and a first-place finish in all three divisions. In the Boys 15-19 Division, Marcos Montenegro claimed the Tournament of Champions title with a final round 3-under-par 69. Karen Miyamoto claimed the Girls Division title with a 5-shot victory, and, after a two-hole, two-way playoff, Tristan Galant brought home the Boys 14 & Under Division title.

In the Boys 15-19 Division, BGGA students held 5 of the top-20 spots on the leaderboard. In 18th place, Mathias Andersen continued his top-20 streak with eight birdies and 25 pars over the weekend. Bringing home a T8 finish, Tsukasa Kimishima and Zaffar Sikkander both closed out the tournament with a 3-day total 227. Both Tsukasa and Zaffar showed massive improvement in round 3, securing their top-10 finish. With a tournament total 2-over-par, Carlos Marrero claimed a solo third-place finish. Carlos fired 16 birdies and 23 pars over the weekend.

In the Girls Division, Marisa Hisaki claimed a T6 finish. Marisa carded 5 birdies and 29 pars over the weekend, securing a tournament total 244.

And last, but certainly not least, BGGA students held four of the top-10 spots in the Boys 14 & Under Division. In ninth place, Tomas Molina carded 5 birdies and 24 pars for a tournament 86-83-79-248. With 5 birdies and 28 pars over the weekend, Marc Sabria carded a tournament total 78-84-78-240, good for a solo-eighth place finish. After the two-hole playoff with roommate Tristan, Robin Williams claimed a solo-second finish. Robin and Tristan were neck-to-neck the entire final round, and Tristan claimed the title with a birdie on the second playoff hole.

It has been an amazing first year for Bishops Gate Golf Academy. During the 2014-15 school year, nine students accumulated 21 tournament titles.
